Margaret Burrell joins The Construction Cogs Podcast to share her personal journey into construction.
Margaret didn’t come into the industry through a traditional route. With a law degree, a master’s in international relations, and early roles across schools, charities, government and housing, construction was not a career path anyone had pointed her towards.
After redundancy changed the direction of her working life, Margaret found her way into client-side construction project management and went on to build a 15-year career across public sector, private sector, consultancy and major project delivery.
Margaret talks about finding construction later in life, becoming a chartered surveyor, working in senior rooms where she didn’t always feel like she fitted, and why she felt she had something to prove.
She also shares the story of passing her RICS APC while on maternity leave, studying while breastfeeding, managing the pressure of new motherhood and building a career with the support of her family.
