In lifting tag lines get used by slingers to help guide loads. They help slingers control loads and stop them spinning or swinging into objects or structures.
When a load is on the crane, a tag line should always be attached to the load, so that the slinger can hold it and guide the load into position.
Tag lines have become more advanced in recent years. They used to be simple rope that got tied onto a load. They look similar to endless slings, but have a hook on one end to be able to quickly attach to a load.
Slingers should make sure knots don’t form in tag lines, because as the crane hoist goes up, with the line attached, the knot might snag on something.
Slingers should also always feed the tag line through their hands, while watching as it gets sent into the air, because they have could wrap around limbs and send the slinger into the air with them.
